Hepatitis C Outreach Service
South East
During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, homeless people across Surrey were provided with temporary housing. Royal Surrey doctors and nurses saw an opportunity to address the unintentional healthcare inequalities by setting up ‘pop up’ clinics for homeless people, who are at higher risk of contracting hepatitis C and are less likely to access essential healthcare, while we had improved access to them. Our innovative outreach project to saw us screen (and treat where needed) over 100 patients for hepatitis C and liver damage.
